(Back to Top ) Organisation and Requirements
Attendance
All students must be punctual and regular in attendance. Inadequate attendance
may result in failure to achieve satisfactory results in subjects. Absence
Notes must be brought to college after each absence. Medical appointments
should be made for out of college time if possible. Advance notice of known
absences is requested. Truancy will not be tolerated from any student and
if over 15 years of age, their place at college may be declared vacant. Youth
Allowance recipients should know the strict rules on attendance. This College
must provide records.
College Records
It is essential that parents keep us informed of changes of address and phone
numbers etc., and any amendment to the medical disability section of their
child's original Admission Form.
Disabilities and Illness
If a student suffers from any physical or emotional problem which may affect
his/her college activities or which may require special attention by members
of staff, it is the responsibility of parents to inform the Principal in
writing as soon as possible, (in case of new pupils, there is a space on
the Admission Form for this). In the case of illness or accident a student
may be treated at the college and if necessary taken to a doctor. The parent
is informed as soon as possible. Usually we ask a parent to take a sick child
home, where he/she will be more comfortable.
Requirements for Practical Classes
Teachers of practical classes have asked to bring the following points to your
notice:-Long flowing hair is dangerous in practical classes such as Textiles,
Woodwork, Metalwork - where machines are used, and in P.E., Home Economics
and Science. Where teachers consider it necessary they reserve the right
to insist that hair be tied back in their classes. It is in your child's
own interest that we ask your support in this matter. All students, boys
and girls, must either tie their hair back or wear a hairnet when using machines
in Woodwork or Metalwork. Because of the materials used in art, craft, Woodwork
and Metalwork, it is desirable to wear a protective overshirt of some sort.
We recommend that you provide your child with an old shirt to wear over clothes
during these classes.
Science Class Requirements
There is an important set of rules to be pasted to the inside front cover of
Science exercise books and loose leaf folders. These rules will be given
to students by their Science teachers. These rules are to be strictly observed
as are other instructions and rules made by Science teachers for the safety
of students.
Book Purchases
Secondhand book sales are made through the uniform shop. New book sales are
made by a private company. Parents pay the booksellers for the items they
order from the booklist at the beginning of the year (Note: The book seller
does not accept cheques). Arrangements for the sale of these items are set
out on the booklist. Booklists are given out in Term 4 each year and are
to be returned by a given date, generally mid-December.
Conveyance Allowance
The Department of Education grants an allowance to any parent who has to convey
their child 4.8 kms (3 miles) or more to the nearest school bus pick-up point,
or 4.8 kms or more to college by private conveyance. Application forms are
available from the Front Office.
College Canteen
Lunch is available from the college canteen. Prices are reasonable and a very
good range of food is provided. We are aiming to provide a healthy and interesting
menu. We hope for loyal patronage from students and parents as any profits
are used by the College Council for the benefit of the students.

Other Important People
Home Room / Personal Health Teacher
In 2009, there should be twelve Forms of Year 7 students. Each Form will have
appointed a Home Room (Pastoral Care) teacher. This teacher will take you
for at least one of your subjects as well as Pastoral Care and Health Education.
The Home Room teacher has many responsibilities. Above all, he or she, is there
to help you deal with any problems which you may meet at your new College.
Student Welfare Coordinators
These full-time staff members seek to give practical help to children in the
College who have problems, be they financial, social, emotional or academic.
Parents are most welcome to arrange interviews.

other welfare resources in the College. In addition to providing support,
counselling and guidance for students, the Chaplain is a resource available
