L.O.T.E.

Languages offered are Japanese and Indonesian from year 7 to year 12. All students in year 7 have the opportunity to study both languages for one semester each. An Accelerated Program for one group of year 7’s will study Japanese using the year 8 textbook. The year 7 Accelerated Program alternates between Japanese and Indonesian each year. In year 8 students will choose to study either Japanese or Indonesian for one year. After that, language study is a matter of student choice.

Our aims are :

  • to facilitate effective verbal and written communication in both languages
  • to foster in students an appreciation of different cultures, values, beliefs and lifestyles
  • to promote and encourage enjoyment gained from learning another language
  • to develop students’ cognitive skills which are transferable to other learning areas
  • to prepare students well for future use of L.O.T.E. studies at tertiary level or for leisure and travel purposes.
Rosebud Secondary College prides itself on being able to offer the study of both Indonesian and Japanese at year 12 with strong V.C.E. results. Students are given ample opportunities to use the language in simulated and real situations in order to gain confidence in speaking and understanding Japanese and Indonesian. Students also have the opportunity to participate in student exchanges and to tour the country where the language is spoken. We are also very fortunate to have a Japanese assistant who helps in the classroom and coaches V.C.E. students to speak the language more confidently.
